Why is this coin going for such big money? The coin is at $1,500 and the toning is not that great. (IMHO)

Numismedia value for this coin is $143

Yeah, the coin is nice. However I have seen Franklin halves with a lot nicer toning for much less.

Just noticed that someone bought this coin before, and the returned it.

It sold for $420.99 before.

PCGS certification guide shows the value at $180. I'm sure it's a nice coin, but how can this lightly toned coin go for 10 times value? I have a few toned coins, including a Morgan that has toning that I would say is slightly nicer than this Franklin. It's toned only on the reverse. I never thought of having it graded, but now I'm going to send it in.

If I can get 3 to 4 times value because of the toning, I'll never buy a bright white coin as an investment again! This is a real eye opener for me!

I think its because the seller is known to have very nicely toned coins, and I believe that is just about all he deals in. He seems to have quite a following with people buying his items for way more than they should sell for. This is just one instance of this, I have seen many more from this seller like this

Grade is questionable too I would put that one closer to an MS-65

I like the coin but I could never justify paying $1500.

I suppose I should trust the slabe, but from studying what FBL meant, this doesn't quite make it for me.
Firstly, the die looks too worn, and key details in Franklin's hair and the bell are a bit weak.

Agreed - weak strike (check out the eagle) and too many distractions for the grade. Buyer is throwing away his/her money in my opinion.

Its a easy decision for me when several of the potential buyers have 44% and 66% bidding on this seller's items. Sure they might love this seller's items but I call it something else. Especially when there are other reasons to question the listing and bidding war. Read into it what you might. CAVEAT EMPTOR

All it takes is two to drive the price up. Or one and one shill.

I agree that it doesn't appear to have full bell lines also the eagle is messed up.
Shill bidders maybe?

Let me put it this way. I like candy bars but I'd never pay $1500 for one.
