Hello,

(I'm french, so please excuse my frenglish...)
My aunt gave me old coins with some dollars.
According to informations I found on Internet, the 1800's ones are copies because the edges are reeded. But I don't know what to think because they seem old...
What do you think about this stuff ?
PS : the last coin has no date and I don't know it. You certainly do, can you tell me ?
Thanks,

Thomas

The last coin is not a US coin, or a copy of a US coin. It is what is called a fantasy piece.

Even the Eisenhower looks odd, but why would anyone fake a Eisenhower dollar?
Do any of these coins stick to magnet?

Bonjour Thomas123,

Elles sont toutes les copies. Je doute qu'ils contiennent tout d'argent.

En anglais ... They are all copies. I doubt they contain any silver. As you already mentioned the 1800 dollars have reeded edges. Reeding was not used until the Seated dollars starting in 1836. The Morgan dollars (1893, 1880, 1887, and 1885) have the same appearance and the dates look wrong, so I also vote them copies. The first and last are fantasy pieces combining the obverse of one type coin with the reverse of another. Lastly, the 1971 Eisenhower dollar has the same patina as the others and a very weak reverse strike ... I also vote it a copy.

With larger pictures we could list other diagnostics of a counterfeit, but I don't think that will be necessary.

J'espère que votre tante n'a pas payé trop cher pour ces.

Thanks to all of you, even if your answers disappoint me...
All of these coins stick to magnet. That's not a good thing, right ?

I don't think my aunt bought these coins. I think it's a gift. (maybe it's worse for her...)

English, please; No, sticking to a magnet indicates that it is a ferrous material, the only United States coin that I am aware of is the 1943 "steel" cent.

Nice conversation pieces though.
