Hey all, here is a 1910-D $10 Indian gold eagle. I think the grade is about an AU-58. What do you think?

At least! With the coin in hand, where do you see any wear? Beautiful coin...

I see wear under "BER" in liberty and top left of the eagles feathers. Just my opinion. That is why I thought it was AU-58 by looking at others on PCGS coingrade and some slabbed ones on ebay. I know it's a common date, but what do you think she would grade if slabbed PCGS?

I think AU-55 and 58 are very probable grades and it could be higher.

You guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but it was my understanding with many of these gold coins the dies were usually hitting them pretty softly (since gold is so soft) and that it caused alot of extremely light strikes. My thought is AU58 with a decent shot at MS60.

Your otherwise excellent photos do not reveal much about the luster. The slight detail weakness below BER and on the eagle's shoulder could be wear or could be strike-related. I would lean towards wear unless luster is intact over these points; this can only be properly determined by an in-hand close inspection. Based on these images I'd guess a solid AU-55 and a possible AU-58. For comparison, here are photos of my 1908-D no motto eagle. This coin was described as BU when listed in a Stacks auction but ICG graded it as AU-58. My images (taken through the slab) are not as sharp as yours but they do show some of the luster. I believe this coin failed to make the BU cut at ICG because of a very slight grayish discoloration and luster loss over the eagle's shoulder and on Liberty's cheek. Sorry if this sort of hijacks your topic. I'm always trying to get better at grading gold. It's not that easy!

Thanks Jaobler for the info. The coin does have luster on those areas as well. Maybe it is a weak strike? I will probably take one of my local coin shops and see what they say for a grade. Thanks again!

Seems like it has full luster. MS-61, perhaps.

Strickly from comparison, and by no means degrading Jaobler's 08, if the 08 is truely a AU, then Morgan's 10D looks sharper with less hits and should go MS 60-61. IMHO only.
I would be proud to own either piece.
