Hi There, I am looking for some information. Recently we were passed down a slew of coins. Mainly a couple of hundred older silver halves US and Canadian. My Great Grandmother was given them some years ago when she was a clothing designer. I don't want to keep these coins as I am afraid of theft and losing them in a move as we are military and move often. I am not sure how or where I would sell or unload these coins as I know nothing about coins. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be very helpful. We live in Nova Scotia, Canada. Thank you, Kerri

You can sell them as a huge lot on ebay, or get 250 posts on this site and sell them here.

Before selling, get a list of what you have (denomination, year, Mint) and list it here. We should be able to get you a rough estimate on what to expect to get. Also some pictures would be good but concentrate on the list first.

Can you post pictures on here? There are a lot of different coins besides the half dollars. Here is a link to some of the coins...just to give you an idea of what is in here....

Thank you for all your help! Should I be cleaning these first (before I post pics), some are in packages or hard covers?

No, cleaning of coins is not a good idea. Even wiping them with a towel or tissue paper can be harmful.

List what you can by country and denomination. The prices vary a lot by grade so that is where the pictures come in. You can post pictures using this site but can be tricky when learning to.

If my math is correct just in silver value it is over $1300 US Dollars
4 at .3461 oz (1909 to 1919) 108 at .3000 oz (1929 to 1966+ wolf) 4 at .3504 oz (Newfoundland) TOTAL: 35.15 oz
Not sure about the 1964 Charlottetown QC CND Dollar
Also, that is just silver value. The 1909 and 1914, 1934 should bring in more and any other good quality one also
Can somebody else confirm?

Hi Kerri,
By the looks of it so far it looks like you received some decent coins. In the first picture a see the 1914 50c with a value of around $40. the 1909 around $15ish. With the price of silver these days the other 50c pieces would have a value of around $11 each. That is the value of the silver content. most dealers will pay you a percentage of that. the condition of the NFLD coins is only average and would be worth about $11 each.
Can't wait to see the rest.

Quote:You can sell them as a huge lot on ebay, or get 250 posts on this site and sell them here. Sort of the best thing to do. If you have the time, stick around here, ask questions, don't be to hasty to dump those coins. If you ask and question things here a lot, in no time you'll be able to sell them right here.

Thanks Shafta! Do you happen to know of a reputable coin appraiser in Nova Scotia or a reputable coin buyer? Thanks so much, Kerri

Thanks Carl I will definitely take your advice. I am in no rush to sell but would like to eventually sell them. I will take the time to learn more first. I appreciate your comments. Kerri
