nicolashsing Valued Member China 106 Posts	Posted 08/09/2011 11:34 pm i thought this coin is hard to find,cause lima mint was captured by the republicans and produce the republican independence 8R.Not long the royalist recaptured the mint and strucked the portrait pillar 8R again.So I thought this kind of royalist portrait pillar is very rare.And this coin is underwieght,only 25.6g. The weight is obviously way low for a standard issue colonial 8R, but a lot of wacky stuff was going on with production at Lima and Cuzco those two years. Control of the city and the mint was shifting back and forth, various crude issues were being struck and over-struck... It wouldn't be shocking if there was some point-shaving going on. swamperbob Pillar of the Community United States 5362 Posts	Posted 08/21/2011 2:20 pm I have looked at this coin a couple times before deciding to write. This date is known to have been copied by the Bullion forgers of the late 1800's and I have seen one or two modern copies made with transfer dies. The dies here show numerous signs of having been transferred. I am also troubled by the application of the dentils and the die erosion that has taken place. All in all, I would place this one in the Counterfeit bin. Report this Post to the Staff
