Finally!
I cherry picked this 1946 S Jefferson known as "The hockey stick nickel" it seems to be a very tough nickel to run into. It was on my want list a long time.
I saw an image of one someplace and can't find it tonight but the guy who posted it might have been on that other coin forum and as I recall he had found a couple in his searching. Mine here looks nicer except for the scratches on Jefferson's face but I am glad to have it anyways. It sort of fits in with my other circulated varieties in this condition.

It reminds me of those hidden pictures games you find in the comic strip or children's magazines.
Can you find the hockey stick? I think you can.

Interesting, never heard of this coin before. Is that a die crack, or something else? Is there a nickel site of some sort that lists these sorts of varieties?

Looks like a strike-thru of some sort. Wire, staple? Indeed, please direct me to some reference material.

A struck through would be incused, this is either a die crack or die gouge.

It is raised, I think it is a die gouge or crack.
I saw another image of this coin and forget what link in my favorites will take me there. I searched and googled but nothing came up last night and I looked pretty hard. Thus explaining the late night post.
Thanks nlp coins - Noel for looking.
Yes, it has been a tough one to find.
Not that it is worth anything. It was fun to get though! As soon as I saw it I said "There it is!"
There will be no doubt when you find one.You will know immediately that it is one of these. No maybe about it. So I hope others will look and find one too now.

Still need a 1946 D over inverted D ( Could have sworn I had one of them. I also would hope to get a 1953 D over inverted D someday.

I have these odd varieties
1939 DDR
1941 S large S
1942 D over Horizontal D
1943 P 3 over 2
1943 P double eye
1944 Henning no hole in R
1945 P DDR
1946 S "hockey stick"
1949 D/S
1954 S/D
1955 D/S
1955 Proof Triple Die Reverse
1964 Proof Triple Die Reverse
a few other proof doubled dies
1990 D no FS initials
An Adolf Weiss PAK club token
The .999 silver Unc and Proof 1938 FSNC (2002) Felix Schlag pattern Jefferson nickels.

and uh .... there seems to be another I can't remember what that was .... OH YEAH!
The 1971 Proof No S Nickel! My favorite coin!

I found this on another forum.

Quote:
In "The Best of the Jefferson nickel Doubled Die Varieties" 2nd Edition, Wexler & Ribar, shows a picture of the hockey stick. They describe it as being "from an apparent metal object which came between the hub and die during the hubbing."

Thank you Tunnioc, yes I have that book and yes I recall it being in there but there was a web page where someone had found one and it appeared to have that reddish brown oxidation that nickels sometimes acquire.

LATE UPDATE:
I found a post I had put in the forum WTB in 2009 that has an image of another one of these nickels.

https://goccf.com/t/44170#44170

Here's one that I have just learned is also known as
1946-S 5C Doubled Die Obverse FS-101, formerly FS-031.5
I think I have an account with them but I don't know what my sign in is at the moment. I wonder what the MS65 sold for?
