Seeing this auction has actual bids, I thought a discussion here might be educational for anyone dropping by.

Here is the auction. How would an actual "weak strike" differ from this damaged coin? For starters, I think a weakly struck 5c would have a full rim, since that is raised prior to striking--what else?

LOL, what a joke A weak strike would not produce a flat coin with devices running into the rim like wear would. For a true weak/adjustment strike, the strongest detail is typically found at the center of the coin with greater weakness towards the rim. Reeded coins will also have weak reeding. Center areas with fine detail(hair, feathers, etc) will retain that fine detail on a weak strike while wear will obliterate those fine details. A great example of a weak strike was posted a couple days ago- https://goccf.com/t/94964

I missed that weak strike in the mint set--that's a good example!
