I am no expert, but it might be graded Fine. That might put it worth about $150 wait for the experts

A common 1831 in this condition VF-25 with small rim dings would sell at about $125.

I see to the left you have over 60 posts and yet you still place your fingers all over a coin worth well over a hundred dollars? I suggest you take better care of that coin. It is in eally nice shape.

I was the successful bidder for one of these in an auction in Australia, but I was not happy with it when received, and so it was returned. That cause some angst for all of those concerned. The detail on my coin was just not raised enough, when considering the amount of wear.
This one looks OK.
I am still looking.

took it to the local coin shop and he said he'd grade it VG because the rim was rough, and it is rough. offered $25 (seemed kind of low to me), so I passed and said I'd think about it. plus, it's not my coin to just sell without asking my sister first.

i know dealers have to make money by reselling... but $25? Really. Lowball offers these days.

I would go VG as well due to the rim. Its fair chewed up. VG lists at 70. Personally, I would certainly pay 70 for it. A fair dealer offer would be 45 or so. Now, if that rim looked better in person, add 30 or so to those prices. I just couldnt go over fine with that rim damage.

thanks for the replies! I'm glad I didn't get rid of the coin yet.

Since when is it bad to put fingers on a well circulated coin? By definition, they have been touched a million or so times.
