So I've been lurking for a while and I thought I post about my roll hunting this past week.

So last week my wife came home with a surprise for me $200 worth of quarters to hunt through. I later found out that she wanted the American quarters out of the rolls, for our trip to the states in a couple of weeks (not really sure this makes any sense but it got me some coins to hunt through).

So we've traded in 3 times, each time trading in $200 and getting $200 back. One local bank refused the rolls because we didn't have an account. Is this common? The excuse was so they can track the rolls just in case the rolls were short. I guess they would have to track or mark the rolls, does that make any sense?

The last time my wife went to the local credit union I got my wife to ask about .50 pieces. The teller supervisor came over with a bag of US and Canadian halves, some still in rolls. She said they take them in but don't know what to do with them, and I'm more than welcome to go down and get some. So needless to say I'm off to the bank to buy some halves.

Making the 8 hour trek from Winnipeg to Minneapolis, with the kids. To do some touristy things and take advantage of the high dollar.

What high dollar are you talking about? If you mean exchange rates, aren't you taking the quarters to pay for stuff? They're almost at par right now, I don't know what the hype is when you include gas money and other expenses.

So I just got back from the bank. I cleaned them out of their 50 cent pieces and "silver" dollars. (pretty sure everything is nickel)
I think they've been hording them for a while. I only had about $35 in my pocket, how many could they have right? Well they asked me how many I wanted and then they asked did I want silver dollars I told them I'd take the works.
So I scored,
3x 2007 50 cent mint rolls,
8x 50 cent rolls some in plastic and 2 in paper each are marked with a year
35 loose 50 cent pieces.
23 loose $1 nickel coins
5x $20 rolls of "silver" $1 coins
16x US halves (mostly 70's and 80's)
11x US Ike dollars 71, 72 and a 76

I haven't really gone through them yet (it's going to kill me to wait until this evening). Everything looks to be nickel but I think I made out pretty good.
Best of all they were very happy to unload these on me.

You would love my bank. I drop off rolls of nickel 50c and nickel dollars all the time (AU or MS-60 grades, worth only face value to me).
