My father would like me to find out what these coins are worth.

He has 25 1982 Prospectors still in the original cellophane wrappings.

I can't find anything on the 1982's, the earliest I see are 1984's I would really appreciate any insight on these coins.

Thank You,
John

to CCF. I am no pro but I don't think it matters what date they are because they are silver bullion medals. So the value would be in silver only, what ever silver is going for at the moment. Around me it's 24 times face=$24 for one 90% silver dollar in face value.

they are not coins, they are rounds or bars and sell around the same as spot. Some may be a dollar or so premium but usually not. There is no face value so there is no ever how many times face like mentioned above, they are just worth what ever an ounce of silver is worth at the time of the sale and this fluctuates daily

Engelhard Prospectors sell for a premium above and beyond normal generic silver. APMEX buys them at $1.00 over spot and sells them at $3.50-$4.50 over spot depending on volume. http://www.apmex.com/Product/9712/1...99_Fine.aspx

By comparison, they sell generic silver at $1.00-$1.90 over spot depending on volume. http://www.apmex.com/Product/156/default.aspx

On Bullion Direct's nucleo exchange, generic silver trades at $39.65/$40.50 bid/ask while Prospectors trade at $41.51/$42.93 bid/ask so there is a premium there as well. http://www.bulliondirect.com/nucleo...n&category=1

One other example is our biggest local dealer here. They sell all Engelhard silver products at $1.95 over spot, while generic silver is $1.00 over spot. They used to include Prospectors with their generic silver but separated them out a few months ago to be more inline with how other major dealers are handling these.

Followup....I checked with the 2nd biggest coin dealer in town, and they too are selling Engelhard Prospectors at a higher premium than generic silver. I believe it was $1.00 over spot for generic, and $2.50 over spot for Prospectors.
