It has been cut, smaller pieces of silver or, "pieces of 8", for commerce purposes. These started off round, and come in all shapes and sizes from this purpose. Guadalupe Victoria Valued Member Mexico 53 Posts	Posted 08/15/2011 12:56 am It is an 8 reales coin from Mexico, dated 1733 assayer MF. KM-48 VG $500. They were originally made that way, shear cut. It is a transitional type between cob coinage and milled pillar "dos mundos". But I would be careful, as counterfeits exist aplenty. The one pictured above has two holes plugged and has a strange feel about it. Authentication would be the way to go. Report this Post to the Staff
