As coin collectors (usually a more educated group of hobbyists), we have several organizations that could lobby Congress and Treasury officials for half-dollar coins commemorating Americans who have won the Nobel Prize. Not every child beyond the second grade aspires to be President, and the array of American Nobel laureates would not only be truly educational but might even inspire young people to pursue fruitful careers in the arts and sciences --- or at least provide better heros to emulate than the likes of Snoop Dog, P-Diddy, Madonna, Pamela Anderson, Barry Bonds (or any number of million-dollar monosyllabic "athletes" of sorts), and any other celebrity with more money than brains, self-respect, or dignity. Our country is rich with individuals who actually made a difference in the world, actually made it a better place to live, than some Bozo the Clown who wants to bring "democrazy" to the Kookachoos and the Kikiboos in the land of Ali Baba, and to whom some poor government employee would certainly have to explain that the "Nobel" prize is not a title of nobility prohibited by the Constitution. Just a procative thought submitted by your favorite provocateur.

I do Agree With You , There are Many Famous Americans who should Be on coins . Like a continuous cycle of circulating commemoratives . Eli Whitney Edison, Martin Luther, etc etc etc. Or How about A series set designed to get kids and Adults hooked on collecting and Secretly hooked On Topics Like . Famous Inventors, Famous Authors, Famous Scientists, Famous Artists, Famous Mathematicians, Famous Patriots , Famous women in History, Famous Black Americans If not covered other Wise, Famous Latino- Americans Etc. and Many More topics to choose from. And keep presenting A new Series Every Year with Nickel Clad Circulating editions and Silver Mint State and Proof . So the Mint can get there Money as Well

As an avid reader of books I would like to see famous writers, such as John Steinbeck, Pearl Buck and Kipling. As a lover of arts and an artist myself, I would like to see Moore, Pollock, and eventually Peter Max.

I would like to include Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Woody Guthrie, Gram Parsons, Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holly, Jimmie Rogers, Marvin Gaye, Harry Chapin, and Jim Croce. If the Mint will consider stepping outside the box, I would also include George Harrison, John Lennon, Kieth Moon, and John Bonham.

Rest in Peace

Then there is Batman, Robin, Superman, Spiderman, Elvis, The Green Hornet and Kato, Bruce Lee, Walt Disney. Now why stop there when we could add Mary Worth, my insurance agent. Tim Farmsworth is my neighbor and drives a garbage truck which no one really appreciates enough.
What I mean is leave well enough alone. Look what happened to stamp collecting when they did that.
Rest in Peace

I think some of the above comments were made in jest.

I agree with Houston_guy in that there are people probably more worthy of being memorialized on a coin than some of our Presidents.

I also enjoy Houston_guy's sense of humor.

I wasn't Jesting I seek To recognise Real Important people From all area's and back grounds, and with that diversity we may capture the interest of Broad group of people and there fore broading the Amount of interest and The amount of people Interested . which would also Favor us By Making Our coins more sought after and Therefore more valuable. Not Really my Intent But what an Interest
