Are the 1995 $50 dollar note special? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Australi...em2566b4cde4I had one today from an ATM and now I am thinking I should of kept it. Also does the whole serial number have to repeat? I have a note and the year doesn't match but the last of the number is 218 218. Or am I meant to count the year as well?

Hi Gecko, The reason that note got a pretty descent price is because it is a last prefix note,it actually has a CV of $650 in VF $3400 in UNC.
You can get 6 digit repeater notes which yours is,3 digits repeated, another example of 2 digits repeated would be 282828. OR you can also have an 8 digit repeater eg: 18181818 which can only be 2 digits repeating of course.

And what about such numbers like 08 808 008 or 07 770 070 are they kind are interesting? As I understand so far all VG 95 50$ are scarce any others for 50? And any other prefix for other notes? Thanks, zic!

So not really worth much above face value? Unless I find a collector or someone with 218 as a lucky nuber. Should we hold on to it or put it back into the wild. It is crisp nd new with two curves in it.... wouldnt call them folds it just curves up a bit from being in a wallet for a few hours.
And thanks for clearing that up about the 1995 one, my heart jumped when I saw it. I dont collect notes but they could fund buying coins! Coins I do like!

Here is a link to the RBA note serial numbers & prefix's for every year from 1992 to now, just click on each year on the right hand side & that will show which notes were printed that year, infact you can find anything you want to know about Australian notes from the link. http://www.rba.gov.au/banknotes/col...2/index.htmlany thing else you want to know just ask, have fun Cheers.

So it isn't worth more than face then? I was thinking of throwing it on ebay as I dont really collect notes, unless they are old paper ones or foreign ones. Hoping to hear back about this. thanks Gecko

Gecko, I usually collect these repeater notes if they have numbers that have some significance to me & I think others do the same, I'm not sure what year your note is but lets say it is a 2005 note, someone may have had a child in 2005 on the 21st of the 8th so that would be significant to them IYKWIM. Condition would be another factor if it is close to uncirculated it more likely to sell a little better but if it is in poor condition then it's probably not worth waisting your time listing it.

Yeah thats the lines I was thinking. My girlfriend actually put it aside for me, it was crisp and went into her purse then out to me. It curves as she has a bulky purse but not a fold or crease in it. I may just hold it for now then and wait till I get 250 post's or something. Thanks for the answer! Gecko

If the 'curve' in the note is not severe, place it between 2 nice firm pieces of cardboard and put a heavy weight on it (a nice big fat coin album is good), leave it for about a week. The note should be nice and flat afterwards.
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved
