I think it's just damaged. It looks as if the plating is missing at the mint mark. Maybe someone was trying to remove it.

I looked at it with a magnifing glass and you can see the D below the surface of the coin

Did you weigh it? Bet this is another 2.5 gram zincoln that is suffering from zinc rot at the MM location.

Show us a close-up photo of the MM area ... I suspect the experts have already nailed this one.

Weighing the coin would do no good in diagnosing what it is. The weight really doesn't matter in this case. It's corroded around the mintmark. That's all.

I can not get a close up picture of the mint mark, with the equiptment I have at the present time. I weighted it and it is 2.5 grams. I believe your right on, I think it is rot. Great learning coin. Thanks.
