It's so true; you can never go back. I am back in my hometown after 20+ years, and drove past my old coin shop that I used to visit. It was closed for remodeling, so I thought that I would try again later. I stepped into the "newly remodeled" local coin shop yesterday, and asked if I could look at some 1917 Type I's, the guy behind the counter looking over a roll of circulated Mercury dimes, replied "you want a type I buffalo"? I replied back "no, type I buffaloes were made in 1913, I want to see a type I Standing Liberty quarter". He replied back (without even looking up from his pile of mercs) "I don't have any". Needless to say I am not going back there again, especially when he does not know his coins to begin with.

I hear you brother.

I went to a shop in a small town not too far from where I live and ran into the rudest dealer. The shop was small, dirty, cluttered, etc. He had someone in there and they appeared to be friends and were not necessarily talking about coins. I tried to peer around them to look in the case, etc. The guy literally ignored me for 20 minutes and did not say a word when I left. I guess he didn't need to sell anything that day.

True you just can't go back. Where I lived as a kid there was a coin shop a few blocks from me. I really almost lived in that place. I stopped in there at least 2 times a week and usually just stared at stuff I couldn't afford.
After about 40 or more years I decided to go there and see who owns that place. Not only was the store gone, but the entire building was gone and a new one in it's place.
Time marches on.
A long time ago I used to love small hardware stores. Now too most gone and replaced with Menards, Home Depot, etc. where kids work that are not sure what is ment by a hammer.

You know if the guy doesn't know his stuff then you might be able to find yourself a nice deal. There is a bonus
to dealing with a coin dealer that is really a bullion guy rather than a collector. You might want to rethink the
situation. I would take agood look around the remodeled shop for items that are not marked correctly.

After he looked and didn't find it did he say he will try to find one for you?

It's a shame that so many people who operate "coin" shops have no knowledge of coins in general. The true coin shops run by knowledgeable, friendly and helpful dealers are becoming quite scarce.
