Hope someone here with knowledge regarding rare uncirculated mintings can share their knowledge. I have been able to find a couple of references to the 1938 dollar which I believe was also, like everything after 1935, not circulated.

My first question is this coin subject to confiscation by the US gov't as they were not to be circulated? I believe this was given as a gift to a family member by the head of the SF mint.

Any idea of value, and if there is another one (or more) out there? I have seen the 1938 valued at 4K, but there seem to be at least a few of those.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Please no posts about how these don't exist, I am well aware that we stopped printing in 1935.

I've never heard about a 1937 dollar. Are you sure that it is a dollar coin, not a commemorative coin, pattern or token, that you heard about? Do you know what design was on the coin (was it a Peace dollar design)? Will be interesting if anyone does have info about this.

Would you be willing to share these references? We'd very much like to see proof of the biggest story in the history of US coinage.

I have never heard of such a coin but if it does exist it should be worth more like 4 million than 4 K.....are you sure it's not a commemorative?

and it wouldn't be the first time mint directors took care of friends and family members! they seemed to enjoy doing that back in the day

I, as most have understood...That 1935 was the last year of legal production coins, not that the mint could not have played around with the idea just in case they decided to allow precious metals back into the hands of the public....
Which is why they stopped it in the first place, without a debate here fast forward to 1964 where the mint officially
prepared for a new dollar, waiting for its approval from congress and examples were passed out in the halls of congress.....and some how disappeared.... never were returned to the mint....then the coinage was denied..and all minted coins for 1964 were destroyed....any coin IF IT IS IN existence...is still the property of the USA MINT...and illegal to have/possess.......So those congressional members who swiped those 64 dollars can't ever let them be know to the public or they will be confiscated...such is the same thing going on now and still in court for the 1933 or so $20 double eagle....Where a mint worker under certain guidelines traded cash for coin.(double eagle) legal at time and a loop hole as the coin was not passed by congress as US LEGAL TENDER or mintage...only one was allowed to the King of some foreign country which they paid a lot to get it back...I haven't heard about the mint workers court case for his coin, except the grandson opened his mouth to say they had many more(hear say) not one...Think that's going to the Supreme court due to the loupe hole of the laws at that time...
Think 1937 is a great candidate on the same lines as the 1888-CC coins found online...
YES they are being minted right now as we speak in China!!
And you can request they don't stamp "COPY" on them when you buy in bulk and buy direct outside of ebay....

AND ONE HAS TO WONDER....why OUR CONGRESS has never tried to enforce any laws for china to STOP all of there bootlegging? Canada has and its successful...

Pictures would certainly help.

It's not worth talking about... or any "What if's?" if there are not at the VERY LEAST any photographic evidence.

So let's see it! ;)
