So I came across this 1879 S Morgan dollar...wanted to get your thoughts based on the markings listed on it.... Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Patience. It's the weekend - even coin collectors have lives. 1879-S Reverse of '78, an added-value, Top 100 VAM variety with high interest amongst collectors. The indicated grade is accurate, maybe even conservative. Not possible to tell which of 18 or so specific varieties it is, but definitely a very worthy coin whose value can be expected to exceed that of a run-of-the-mill Morgan in the same grade.

SuperDave....I agree...I get jumpy with the coin collecting.
So you mentioned about the 18 or so varieties...how can you tell which one it would be?
If you would value this coin....what would you put it at? Or hold onto it and wait to see if value increases?

With regard to your first question: http://www.vamworld.com/1879-S+VAMsConcerning the second question - hold. Absolutely hold. This is one which will never do anything but appreciate due to its' rarity and interest. Mind you, it may not outperform other investments, but an 1879-S Rev. '78 will always be among the most desirable of Morgan dollar varieties.

It's my pleasure, man. If our beloved hobby is going to grow in the future, Morgan dollars will be in the forefront because of their nature - big huge cartwheels of almost-pure silver with plentiful availability and a wide variance in grade with scattered conditional and variety rarities. It's a fantastic formula for whetting the collector's interest. I have stuff I don't want to let anyone know I have, for fear they'll try to come steal it. Yet, at the same time, I carry one in my pocket as a good-luck piece. I freely admit that I am a hardcore Morgan fan, but my reasons for being so have a solid basis in fact. Any Morgan dollar variety is a growth opportunity.

I'm thinking its a VAM 6 with the TIUST as the are is broken and the MM tilts slightly left...Pic details are weak so I can't see the die markers, 9 could be open
