I am relativley new to this hobby. I am looking for a software program to keep track of my collection. I found 2 programs that I am looking at.

The first program is Coin Manager by Liberty Street Software and the second program in Coin Assistant by Carlisle Development Corporation.

Any comments about eather program will help me a lot.

I use coin manage myself and have used it for the past year or so, the first version I got was 2004 and it is now at 2006 and I have updated it twice. I like it but it was the first software I tried when I first started so there may be better out there that I haven't tried, but it works great for my collecting needs

Hi Clearwater coins

Welcome to the firum !!

I cannot help you with the software that you have mentioned,, I keep track of mine on a simple form from Mocrosoft works, and hand written hard paper notes.

its simple but it works fine for me. Of course If your a Business wishing to keep track of inventory and costing, for end of the year tax purposes then your requirements would be different.

you can buy coinManage online not very sure about the MAC thing though. There is a demo you can download also so you can see if it works for what you collect http://www.libertystreet.com/shots21.htm but still not 100% sure how it works with a MAC. I actually just noticed there is a 2007 version (I am using 2006) so I guess its time for another upgrade

The best thing I can suggest is for you to check to see if you have Excel on your computer. I would expect that nowadays the greatest amount of computers on Earth do have Excel. It comes with Microsoft Office. It is easy to use and you can make columns for anything your want. You can make it add or justabout do anything mathamatically per column or row. I use Excel for all coin listings. I have one for Albums, proofs, uncircs, one of rolls, 2x2's in boxes, in jars, loose, etc. Then I made a form for total of all collections. I print out all and put them in a book. Also, back them up on a simple 3 1/2 disc. The greatest thing about using Excel is you can just about anywhere and just insert a disc into a computer and there it is. No special programs needed. Remember if you buy or download a special coin program you will always have to have that program on a computer to see what you have. With Excel you can do what you want, where you want, when you want, etc.

I checked out the link, looks like Coin Manage is written for Windows. It seems pretty comprehensive and looks like a lot of fun. I have been a Windows user since 3.1, but recently switched to Mac. Mac is great, I find it a bit more friendly and more stable than Windows. Carl, I've been using Excel and agree it is very versatile. I keep my coin data in a workbook with a different tab for each type, (i.e. Moragans, Peace, Walkers, etc.). I can easily keep track of what I have, what I need, what I paid, condition, etc. It works very well, I'm just always on the hunt for something better. Thanks for the feedback guys.
