I just acquired one with edge lettering as follows:

FIFTY CENTS OHRALF A DOLLAR

The "O" and "R" bracket the H. Is there an Overton number for this? My CherryPickers Guide doesn't include the earlier half dollars.

Thanks

Edge lettering errors in Half Dollars abound - this was done by hand, and anything the hand of Man can do, the hand of Man can screw up. Overton referred to that specific letter arrangement as an "E3" error.

Given that it was a separate step, specific Overton varieties can appear with or without such errors. It would be worth mentioning when describing the coin for sale, and could possibly add a little value for a hardcore Bustie collector.
