2 questions "Wavy line 20c" and "Pattern coins" Hay did anyone see the wavy line 20 sell on ebay yesterday, I forgot the link. But I know it sold for like $700.00 WOW! Are they really that expensive now days? And on another note I have found 3 x 5c coins in circulation with no lines on the rim; I thought they were supposed to be reeded. Are they called patterns if the don't have the reeding. I might take pics later and post them to explain what I mean. They also have some kind of frosted appearance.

The 5 cent coins are probably broadstrikes, the colar that keeps the coin in plcae was not in place when the coin was struck. Are the coins a bit out of shape, not perfectly round & a bit different looking ?

The coin on ebay sold for $760 in the end. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/22083003....m1423.l2649The wavy 2's are worth around the $200 in average circulated condition. The one that sold on ebay looked in great condition by the picture. I asked the seller whether the coin for sale was the one pictured however I never got a response. I saw an aunc/unc wavy 2 at the ANDA show in Melbourne. It was slabbed and I've never seen one in that condition before and I doubt I ever will again. The owner got it in change with 3 or 4 other aunc/unc 1966 'normal' 20c coins. Sometimes your just lucky! She had offers on the day of $3000+ and didn't sell (one up to $5000 while I was there but I'm not sure how serious the offer was).

5c pics 1994 This 5c coins rim isn't reeded. You can see it has heaps of fine lines on the surface from being in circulation, and it has a kinda frosty appearance, but I don't think that circulation wear would of made the reed rub away from the edge of this coin. This has appeared of 3 different 5c coins that I have found in circulation, plus a 5c with just the frosty appearance, will post more pics of the other coins. And yes I put the 5c coins on a pebble to get better lighting. :) front rim 1 rim 2 rim 3

Your two "plain-edged" 5 cent coins have slightly "spooned" edges - post-mint damage, typically caused by getting stuck in an industrial dryer or similar rotary mechanism.
Coins often get a bluish haze to them if they've been sitting in swimming-pool (chlorinated) water for awhile.
"Patterns" are coins struck to test designs that have not yet been issued for circulation. None of these coins or dates have "new" design elements, so they can't be patterns.
I'm not quite sure what you're meaning by "frosting"... it could be chemical wear (acid or other corrosive) or some other kind of damage.

I can see what you mean by spooned edges Sap, but I have one with no reed and quite sharp edges (like a normal coin). Do you know what could have caused this? It actually weighs 2.85 grams which is .2 grams more than it should.

The coin is within Weight Tolerance, so it's hard to say what you've got without pics. I'd suspect it too is post-mint damage.

Stinks. The final buyer must have been another account for the seller. It is an auction with no reserve, you cannot simply just refuse to send the item and refund.

Dibby, While it might be breaking rules, forcing someone to send an item they do not want to send may end up somewhere between difficult and impossible.

maybe those 5c coins have been through a rock tumbler to get that frosty look to them. I know metal detector people tumble the coins they find so they can take them to the back.
