I was checking out Trade dollars (I have a holed one and would like to get a chop-marked one as well) and ran across the description of 1876 ICG 25 Potty. I could not believe what I was seeing:

I looked up the history, I knew the dollars were not well received at home and it was interesting to find out that they were discounted and bartered in their time.

Still looking for an affordable chop marked Trade dollar, I am most definitely going to pass on this one!

Believe it or not, there are numerous iterations of potty dollars around. They are analogous to hobo nickels, essentially folk art.

Some people will pay high premiums for such pieces. This one looks to be well done. Many weren't made this well.

This one is as artistic an example as this longtime collector has seen. I'd not be surprised to see it fetch over $500. Most commonly seen examples seen are those on Seated coins, being Half Dimes to dollars. The halves are the most common denomination I've seen.

It may well have been the engraved potty coins that inspired the hobo nickel artists.

Finding a reasonably priced, chopmarked Trade dollar is likely something that can be done at any major coin show.

A very nice "potty dollar" I would expect this one to go high. These are very popular and this one is much better done than most.

I am just amazed. I am recently into this series, I like thinking about where the circulated and chop-marked coins have been. I was just so shocked to see Liberty in such a manner. I will keep an eye the price it fetches.

Many Trade dollars were turned into "box dollars" or so-called "opium dollars" too. These make nice additions to Trade dollar Collections as well.
