I'm a cashier and someone paid with change including the 1937 Buffalo nickel I am currently using as my avatar. Anyone else finding these in change?
Rest in Peace

Not since the 60's. I was a part-time cashier when I was teen and that was the beginning of my coin collection -- the occasional Morgan or buffalo.

Last week I found a 1940 Jefferson nickel in some change...so there are still some oldies out there.

I got a dateless one yesterday, but I am a nickel roll searcher and it was on my 9th box before I found one. I get a 38 or 39 about ever box and 40's are commonish.

Nice find. I have never found a Buffalo nickel in change. I have found a 1941 Jefferson in change.

Along with the 37 Buffalo, I have found several 38 and 39 Jefferson nickels. I am a cashier though which certainly helps

I found one a few weeks ago. I am a restaurant manager while in college and found it in a drawer at night.

Another manager found one a few months back. I recently found a seriously worn down Liberty V nickel 18XX, and some Mercury dimes. Never know what people will pay with. Had a guy pay a $40+ bill in Ikes last week. I bought a few from the drawer.

They kind of look like this:
Wild-Buffalo
However, this one particular Buffalo was injured right before he possed for this coin. Lost his leg in a Buffalo fight.
Most Buffalos didn't get into those fights so most of the other dates have all four legs.
Just for your info, at the Brookfield Zoo with my grandaughter not long ago a keeper pointed out that our so called Buffalo nickels are really not Buffalos. They are Bisons.

It's a really popular series and can be collected inexpensively, if you don't mind lower grade coins (see the link in my sig). It's certainly one of the easier of the classic US coins to collect a set of, though some can be challenging in nicer grades. Very nice type specimens of some dates (e.g. 1938-D) can be had at reasonable prices, however. There are also some interesting and challenging errors (two-feather, three legged) and varieties (1916 doubled die, 1918/7 over-date).

This is the only Buffalo I have found in the wild. I got it searching a Brinks box. I darn near messed my pants. LOL My wife said I was squealing like a little girl.

Wild-Buffalo

Carl.... Nice 3 leg. *mumbling obscenities about Carls lineage*
