Somehow, paying $97 an oz for $40 silver doesn't strike me as buying into the dips.

That calculates to about 100 bucks spot....

As I like to say at work, asking why makes "too much sense".

It looks more like "buy, dips, buy!"

I've seen $500-600 paid for 1 oz silver pandas but I'm very new to PM bars. Judging by the mass of animated icons pounding the virtual floor, I guess there's no such thing as numismatic value over bars?

There can numismatic premiums to bars, but paying more than double melt for a standard bar is pushing it. A commemorative Disney bar or some of the nice art bars is a different story.

There are very few Yugos out there. Paying big bucks for one isn't smart. If you can buy a nice old Vette instead, even though it may be commoner, that makes more sense.

I have walked into stores many times and paid $200-$500 for the coins I sell and collect. It is almost always followed by up by another customer (sometimes even another employee) laughing or asking me why I would pay so much for said coin or bar. Most of the time I just smile and say I collect them, but half the time I am selling them for 50%-100% what I just paid. Most of the time if you focus on one or two small fields you get a lot laughs or questions, but as I have come to find out there is some easy money to be made that way. It is also not a bad way to collect.

I don't think selling something for less than 100% of what you just paid is smart. Perhaps you mean 50%-100% MORE than what you just paid.

, DVCollector.

Instead of "Somehow, paying $97 an oz for $40 silver doesn't strike me as buying into the dips". Maybe this should be, "The dips are buying at $97 an oz.!

On the other hand... it is good to know that I can make over 100% on the silver bars I just bought.

I've always wondered about the term "common sense". After observing the world for more than half a century, I find common sense all too uncommon.
