OK, I, like most of the rest of you probably, religiously go through my pocket change and grab the goodies and save the rest for later dumping. I recently filled up a coffee can and dumped it at a CoinStar machine at my local grocery since most of the banks around here don't have coin counting machines anymore.
As this was the first time I used one of these, I didn't know that you have to pour the coins in slowly lest you jam the thing up. Half the coins ended up in the reject bin and had to be repoured after the store clerk came out and unlocked the machine and cleared the jam.
After I repoured the rejects I only had a handful of coins in the reject hopper. Of these 15 or 20 coins 2 were silver dimes (63 and 64D) while there were 2 Canadian dimes, 3 Canadian quarters and one silver 1995S diminished proof
Washington quarter.
The amount was wrong too, I had counted the coins before dumping them and knew for a fact there was $134.15 in the can, and the counter showed $145.77 plus the rejected coins shown above.
My guess is that the jam also contained coins from a previous user. I know that the Canadian and silver coins were not in my bucket! All this paid off the CoinStar fee!
