I think long term nothing has changed, we are still broke with all credit cards maxed out, 3 mortgages on the house, and we lost our job on a national scale. The only thing that might have a hope of changing that is the next election cycle.

Helicopter Ben had absolutely nothing constructive to say, so the status quo remains. I'm sure that even though he didn't mention QE3 The Fed will be silently buying Treasuries at auction since very few nations will want them.

Yeah I was trying to be a little positive with the " might have a hope " statement. Without that we have no hope.  I got this in an email the other day, I'll edit it for language. Quote:

And the people RECEIVING the free stuff believe that the people PAYING for the free stuff should pony up more free stuff. And if they don't, then the people RECEIVING the free stuff believe they are entitled to TAKE more free stuff from the people that have stuff. Witness the Tottenham riots in London and elsewhere around England. Even British head honcho David Cameron ADMITS that those riots are a RESULT of the British ENTITLEMENT mentality ENCOURAGED by the British Government. Our government has been fostering the SAME mentality for DECADES. Soon, the U.S. will see the SAME results. Quote:

junior e: The Health Care Bill will never be fully implemented. For that to happen, the Supreme Court would have to uphold it, AND Obama will have to be re-elected. Both events must occur, because it will be the number one item on the agenda of any conservative president to repeal it. In most cases, the Supreme Court goes 5-4 with the conservatives: Roberts, Alito, Thomas & Scalia going to the right, the three women Ginsburg, Sotomayer and Kagan (along with the other liberal justice Breyer) going the other way. That leaves the seventh Justice, Kennedy (as usual), the most powerful man in America.... As long as he stays healthy - the odds are that the eventual decision will be to strike down Obama care. There are many factors that come into play in trying to figure the re-election cycle ... too many to cover here. The political process on both sides is venal and corrupt. (The exception of course is always Ron Paul), but the country is not ready for him (yet). In the aftermath, (with $5000 gold and $300 silver), riots in the streets, and the class warfare to come in the next decade - they will be ready for the next Ron Paul. (let's pray there is one more out there). The prediction market INTRADE has Obama at about a 51% chance of reelection. https://www.intrade.com. The next election cycle is the most important one in 100 years, and Obama MUST be defeated. If Obama care stands, I know that the business I work for, will fold up - because they have told me so... The problem is that people are making a big deal about NOTHING (like the 2K problem in 1999) and blinding people to what IS REALLY HAPPENING. I realize this isn't the forum for politics, but I completely agree with the above comments (junior e and mmerlinn) on how entitlements have painted us into a fiscal corner.
Short-term (5-10 years), I fear of increased rioting/looting worldwide.
Longer-term, I think things will get better though.

Man I hope so Lastgold, as I would seriously consider moving out of the country, if what junior said came to be on health I, 900 a month lol. Yeah right, like I could swing that tiny extra bill a month, it is just delusional behavior by Obama an all the other meat-heads beside him to think most people could.....

Well, here in Canada we have health care taken out of our taxes (15% base income tax rate, ~7% provincial income tax, and 5-13% sales tax).
As conservative as I am, I must admit that people here in Canada are reasonably healthy and reasonably wealthy. I don't know what conservative Americans think of our lifestyle, but it isn't all that bad.
In fact, we arguably may have a more conservative government than you guys, by the sounds of what's happening in Washington.

I'm really excited to hear that health care isn't going to get the "must have" restrictions of auto insurance. Operating a motor vehicle is entirely a personal choice. Existence isn't. I guess Bernanke's wisdom is good for precious metals. At least he's good for something.
