What do YOU believe the price should be?

$20 per ounce over spot for the W ASE would make the $279 5 ounce P puck cheap in comparison....and collectors complained that it was overpriced FYI: premium over spot for the 2008 W was $5.70 (spot: $20.25 (when released) cost: $25.95)

The $100 silver per ounce may not be too far ahead, guess what our $100 bill really going to buy in the near future.
Sigh!

I think the mint is just anticipating the same thing we all are. Increase in PMs over the next 6 months.
Sept 15 is a couple weeks away still. We all know how much can happen in two weeks.
If silver hits $50 this wont seems so bad.
But at $40? Yea, pretty over priced.

If the mint was a private company (it can't be a private Company because it is a monopoly), but if it was, Congress would be holding hearings asking why the price is not considered price gouging.

Although I think the premium is a tad excessive it would not be considered price gouging since it it your option whether to buy it or not.
We are not talking vital supplies in an emergency situation

I think that is a lot more than a tad excessive. I know they have to cover themselves in case of a large increase between now and then but that is just too high. Heck, silver could be $30.00 when those are released.

The $60.95 is the price with spot at $41.60...if spot were to increase significantly before release it would be repriced accordingly....and if the spot price were to drop it would remain at $60.95
It is a one way street

And I fully expected you to say that you had formed your opinion after giving due consideration to - beyond the cost of raw material - total production costs, packaging, storage, marketing, distribution, and sales, including labor costs, equipment, maintenance, utilities, insurance, and all such operating costs of a fully self-supporting organization. I can't imagine what I was thinking. Steve

The Mint's online catalog page for the 2011 American Silver Eagle Proof currently reads: "This product is temporarily unavailable for product repricing". Meaning the price on 2011 Proof ASE's will be raised from the original issue price of $59.95, so at least the Uncirculated "W" coin won't cost more than the Proof at its time of issue. I'm sure glad I got my 2011 ASE Proofs at the original issue price. When I buy a 2011-W Unc., I will have to live with the irony that I paid less for a 2011 Proof coin than I will for the same year's W-Unc. issue. As far as the "overpriced" thing goes, that's what a lot of people said about the 2010 Proof's issue price of $45.95. The 2010 Proof sold out before the end of the year, and now any old bullion ASE will cost you what the 2010 Proof did! Considering what common-date bullion ASE's cost nowadays, why not buy Proofs and Unc.-W's instead, for only a few bucks more? Quote:Me: ...if I'm going to have to pay $50+ to get any ASE, it may as well be a newly-minted Proof.
