I was reading an article about how a 1990 no mint mark was extreamely rare and worth alot of money. But no where did it explain how you can tell the difference between a proof and a philadephia mint. Would the AM be closed? Or the intials closer or further from the base of monument? I know to look for luster and all, but say you found one (not that I think I have) in a roll? How would you know?

You will know a proof when you see one if theres enough luster left just by the strike.
Very sharp edges and strong lettering

The 1990 no mint mark is on a dime not cent. All Philly cents don't have mint marks. The other denomination coins added the mint mark in 1980.

Coop, you're not right on this one.

The no-S 1990 cent is proof. Proof coins are very, very easy to tell from the business strike coins.

Proof coins as I understand has mirrorlike surfaces. If by positioning your finger six inches above it and you can still see it vividly, it's it.
