Hello all, got this in change. Its a 1919 S LWC but not sure if its been cleaned. The strike on the Obverse & Reverse are nice & strong. Thank you for the help.

Umm, no it's not "or it's odd lighting."

The coin is definitely scrubbed. My statement wasn't a question. It was an answer.

Even if it has been cleaned, it's a great wheatie to be found in circulation. How often does that happen these days? Plus it's 1919-S! Usually nowadays common wheaties are found (40's-50's). But even those have been scarce in recent years. Great find my friend!

A friend inherited his grandpa's Lincoln collection. All it was missing the 09s and 09s VDB. Most of the early dates, including the 14d and 31s, had that sort of cleaning. What he heard from his g'pa was that they would take "dirty" coins and rub them real hard on the carpet to shine them up. Well it worked, because 40 years later they were still shiny.

Apparently that was an acceptable practice in the day.

Yes, rubbing on carpet was common practice years back, I've seen more than one collection like that and talked to a few older guys that did it too.

no need to be rude, everyone is entitled to their opinion and you stated yours, by posting this it just shows you're self centered and arrogant. People such as yourself are not needed on forums such as this.

This forum was created for us would be numismatists to express what we think is the right answer to a question. Sometimes, our answers are wrong and sometimes answers are not definitely correct. There is always no definite answer to a question. Let us understand and help each other as members of the CCF. Though frank and sometimes kidding in his contributions, coppercoins shares his God given talent without hem and hawing, always with gusto for free.
