The first picture is the late state of the "die break V" in VICTORIA 1872 25c variety, which has been variously called, first A/V (just like the 1872 50c A/V variety), crossbar V, or now "die break V".

The second picture is the earlier state of the die break V, as the die break is developing.

Both are exceedingly rare, and very interesting, IMO.

Danlos, how do you know so much about this stuff? I thought I read in an earlier forum that you'd only been collecting for several months. It takes most people years to acquire this kind of knowledge.

Kind of you to say...but I've just been trying to learn as much as I can, from the more experienced folks here, and other messageboards.

I did pick up the 2008 Charlton variety section (of Victoria 25 cents) for $10 on ebay, which has most of these varieties listed in the back :).
