Not sure how many people know this variety even exists.

The V in VICTORIA has a crossbar, making it look like an inverted A. This is like the 1872 50c A/V variety, and unlike the 1872 A/V 25c which is a die break.

It is listed in the variety section of the 2008 Charlton but I've never seen one for sale.

I've found two...both 1880 narrow/wide 0s. Sending them to CCCS for hard slabbing.

nice find. I'll have to give the 1880s a once over next time I'm at my local coin store.

People went gaga over the 1872 A/V 25 cents, paying up to $5000 to have one.

Ironically, the 1872 25c A/V is a die break, and while interesting and certainly rare, not sure I'd pay up to $5000 for a high end example.
I did get a G6 for $50 on ebay, and a VG for $70...while a well known dealer is trying to sell a VG right now for $4000.

The 1880 on the other hand is a REAL A/V with a nice straight crossbar. Ironically, I bought mine raw for the N/W 0, which was not labeled.
I had to get out my MS70 to get rid of the heavy toning in the V in VICTORIA once I caught a glimpse of it :).

I'm sending my best example to CCCS for hard slabbing, and another example for a soft holder.

What is the price given in the 2008 Charlton? What grade is yours?

Mine is either VG10 or F12...I'll find out when it gets back from CCCS.

Charlton 2008 lists a VF20 at $1000, and EF at $2000...with no real premium.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea how rare this variety? I think I have one also.

Unfortunately no...I only know it exists because I bought the Charlton 2008 for its 25c variety section in the back.

Right now, it seems no one is collecting Victoria 25 cent varieties, and I'm not seeing any ICCS or CCCS graded ones for sale.

So my goal is to find as many as I can, and have them all graded/authenticated. Then I will slowly release some back into the market, or will try to spur interest in them again.
