It is just a counter stamp. Someone put it there after the coin was minted. Hurts the value of the coin. Worth Melt value only

Its a counterstamp. Post mint damage. This year there was a doubled die reverse; maybe the reason for "DD" counterstamp?

Its unfortunate someone would do that to a beautiful coin.....
I found a gorgeous 1903 Canadian large cent in probably VF+ a few months ago.
Unfortunately, some little scamp named Tom Kelly decided to scratch his name into the obverse at some point.
Bah.
