I cannot direct link this one, sorry about that. Item# 350487385217First off, he is dreaming with the price. The coin is badly corroded but, has enough detail under it that diagnostically, it's very questionable. The date and reverse just don't look right. Those N's are catching my eye. Thoughts? swcoin.ecrater.com

That coin is so badly corroded, it's not worth anything he is asking if real. Those "N's" do look odd and so does the date. I need to get my attribution guide out.

I don't like the looks of that one--way too many problems for that BIN of $1200. Maybe for a raw, problem-free F12. The N has me going However, the middle serifs in the E's are correct for a shallow N.

Hmmm... That last 7 also looks higher than normal but, I've seen many corroded coins where the corrosion has distorted the devices.

Yeah...and if the bothered to make a fake with shallow-n diagnostics, they might not corrode it so badly?

I can't say for sure one way or another. It needs a trip to a TPG. It also could be a circ proof, which would have the strong "N". Definitely not one to buy.

I have a serious problem with the reverse N.
I think you could probably find a similar 1877 for $500 at a coin show.

With corrosion this bad, I would expect $300 or so. I don't have a problem buying problem keys, but this one is just too corroded to even consider IMO. Even Mr. Problem Keys has his limits :) Aside from that, I have a big problem with the coins authenticity.

I'm 0/1 in buying coins from this seller. He's a notorious cleaner and whizzer. Looks like he could have done a better job of "doctoring" this IHC (unless its appearance and condition is a calculated smokescreen).... Not only no, but fudge no!

If it is real it may have been found by someone while metal detecting (it is a hobby of mine). Copper coins in the ground corrode like that and you have to clean them up because the come out in such an atrocious state that anything you do is better than nothing (despite the opposite being true of normal coins). I know someone who once found an 1870CC Seated Liberty quarter while detecting, so it does happen. That being said... I know I wouldn't buy that coin. It may well be fake and even if it isn't it is just too ugly for me to want even if it is a key date. I'm just throwing out a possibility for how this could be a legitimate coin despite it looking like that.

There is one advantage to that coin. It is sort of suspected that Annie Oakly used shot shells for her shows. If you purchased that coin, you could tell people it was her that shot it. Sure looks shot to me.
