based on the corrosion, it looks like steel. the date doesn't look right and the design is too sharp, believe it or not. so I think this one is no good.

I agree with littleboy. I don't think it is real. This coin looks like it has rust on it.

Exactly what I do all the time. I've got a little one the approximate size of a dime that I keep in my wallet. And not just for coins. One of my famorite uses for a magnet is with so called Stainless Steels. Stainless Steels come in a massive variety of grades and the really good ones are basically known as Surgical Stainless. Naturally in an operating room you don't want to use something that could be magnitized. Those usually are in the 440+ grades. Going to any place that supposedly has something of Stainless Steel, I just pull out that magnet to see if it is a low grade. Also, naturally for faked coins with Iron in them.
