I would guess it is some sort of old coin with a cross in it :)

Byzantine Empire, class C anonymous follis dated to the reign of Michael IV, 1034-1041 AD. Rotate the bottom pic 90 degrees clockwise and the lettering in the corners of the cross reads "IC XC NI KA" - Jesus Christ Victorious. Somewhere in the top pic is a portrait of Jesus. In better condition, your coin would look more like this.

This is a long shot, but my guess is it one of the old Spanish copper maravedis. Keep in mind that is just a guess.
