I want to sell some silver coins on the Auction. I have offered $50 face, $60 face etc. No one has had an interest. I offer for around spot assuming someone will offer me a little less. My question is should I offer less face and make it more affordable to people? $1700 might be too much for most people. I wanted to offer free shipping, and having people pay shipping on $5 face would make it too expensive for them to buy. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Either smaller lots or divide by denomination. Most people can't afford $1700 at once but $100 might get them sold. You also might get them sold by denomination or type to someone that only buys a certain coin. Just my 2c.

+1 agree to smaller amounts. People may be a little skittish about PM these days. I tried "Pocket It" on a $10 Jefferson Spouse 1/2 ounce gold (for almost spot)...there were a couple "look and see" but remained unsold. I am going to to try the local coin shops in town to see if there is any decent offers before I go to "the bay".

There are a few people on the forum who will purchase high dollar lots but to be honest most are looking below melt. Did you use the promotion section in the main forum to tout your wares? http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=89I did not see a listing there. Smaller lots will definitely gain more interest but first you have to let people know there is stuff available. The promotion section is the easiest way to steer people to the auction/PIN section.

Thanks guys. I thought the promotion was only for other Auctions. I will try that now too. I will also start breaking them down a little better. I never sold anything in an Auction so I am new to it. However I have purchased my fair share. How much below spot do you think would sell items quickly? If melt is 30x would 29.5x do it?

Volume buyers always like to haggle so start at melt in the listing but say you are prepared to negotiate....

Quote: I thought the promotion was only for other Auctions. Nope, when you're on the CCF listing form, there's actually a link that opens a new topic in a new window/tab right in that forum. You can open it up to upload pics to paste in the listing and copy your auction/PIN description back to it if you like. Process the auction completely before you post the topic and you'll have an auction/PIN link to post in the topic too.

Pricing is a difficult subject. Many sellers want to get ebay prices(or more) without taking into account the fees, & many buyers offer a lot less than what a seller would net on ebay after fees. IMO a fair price is somewhere in the middle. If an item would sell on ebay for $100 & the seller would net $90 after fees a fair price is probably somewhere around $95.....allowing both buyer & seller to benefit.

The other option is put it up for auction with a low start and see where it goes. Keep in mind this section of the forum is still in its infancy and traffic while increasing is still low. Be prepared to take a hit if you go the low start auction route. But rest assured in the knowledge that your coins are going into the hands of some one who will appreciate them. As the forum expands so will the Auction/PIN section so the more traffic you direct that way the more chance there is you will find a buyer for your merchandise. Remember you are dealing with perhaps hundreds of buyers on the forum as opposed to thousands on ebay forum buyers can and do shop on ebay as well so its up to you to make it worth their while shopping here instead.
