It looks like something from a little kid's coloring book.
What's that eagle doing? Landing? Worse?

The only thing I don't mind on this coin is the wreath on Lady Liberty's head. Everything else about the coin is downright offensive to my tastes.

Quote: OMG, THIS is what the mint came up with? This is the worst medal I have ever seen. I normally defend the mint, but not on this. This thing is atrocious. Yes it is bad, but did you see the other designs they had to chose from? Believe it or not I believe this one was the best choice.

So which Olympic's is this for and what a lovely pigeon on the reverse? (No disrespect to the Olympics) I got the email as well and am sad to see yet another coin nobody wants being made. How about some coinage that reflects the beauty of our country and some relief that gives it depth. If you want seigniorage....earn it.

The worst part is that if you got rid of the date, no one would know what on earth the coin is commemorating. Like someone mentioned, it could be about anything. Not one part of the coin resembles the september 11th tragedy except for the 2001 date. Lame.

Those are all terrible. It's too bad they don't allow ordinary schmoes to submit designs. The whole process is ridiculous.

The wavy lines (I believe) represent flowing water from the memorial to be completed at the site.
There were some very good designs considered. This one was not the best, but not the worst.

OK, ALL of those were horrid. That is like having to pick the nicest turd from the waste treatment plant. And what is with the forks? And was there some restriction saying dont actually use the date we are supposed to remember? There are plenty of privately made medals for 9/11 that I would buy. This thing? NEVER.

The tridents are pieces left over from the facade of the towers, just about the only thing left that is recognizable. None of the designs are very good, but at least the trident ones have some clue as to what it's about.

Condor101 -- thanks for putting up the link. It could have been so much worse.

I actually don't think, overall, the design is that bad. However, I would think if you are going to commemorate an event on a medal, you all may actually want to NAME that particular event. The medal is simply too generic.

Let's not forget there was also a downed plane in PA and the Pentagon as well. They were forgotten.
