I was about to report this, but I wanted to verify what I'm seeing before I jump on the guy (it's also an easy mistake to make honestly.) This item is listed as a 1942/1-D overdate, but it looks like ordinary Strike Doubling to me. Am I right?

That's Strike Doubling. The seller seems so sure of its "rarity", but didn't bother to take 5 minutes to Google/research?
Then again, a lot of people don't understand that die varieties are exactly the same on every coin--taking die life into account.

Just in case anyone finds this thread by doing their homework, here are some examples of MD and a pic of the real 1942/1-D.

I've notified the seller; I'll give him a chance to take it down before reporting the listing.

The coin pictured in the auction is NOT the 42/1 overdate. That's probably why it was no bids.

Apparently this turkey selling this coin doesn't care that his listing is wrong, and ebay hasn't removed it. With just over an hour to go the high bid is just over $40... certainly not an overdate price, but still way too much for this common coin showing Strike Doubling.

It looks plain phony to me, but I'm kinda paranoid about rare date mercs.
