Looking for some WL to see if I had any for Moe's thread

Started looking at this one. Having a coin like this scares me. To me it looks like it has either had a older
cleaning or has been stained somehow. It also has a rim nick on the obverse (about 4 o'clock position) and a rim bump at about the same position. The part that scares me is, with a coin like this I start thinking I can clean/restore it and make it look better than it does, but that does not always work out as planned. If it was a common date, I would have no problem playing with, so far
it being a 21 D has stopped me from doing anything with it.

I am thinking with the problems this coin has now, it would never get a problem free holder if I sent it in to be slabbed. But it should have some good value just as it is.

The staining of the coin is a concern but I feel the rim nick on the observe is trivial and the bump on the reserve is negligent to the overall appeal of this coin. As you feel I think it is not a candidate for a slab but a beautiful survivor for some one's album. I would be proud to have this coin fill my hole in my album.

i agree, I would be honored to have this fill a void in my album. I would'nt spend money sending it out if you feel that strongly about it.

I'm not that concerned by the color. There are some scratches and nicks in the fields that might be from an old cleaning but if so it's not obvious. The reverse rim bruise is the biggest negative and would likely net a "rim damage" designation if it were submitted for grading.

Gradewise I'd say VF-25. The 1921-D is not too rare (though still expensive) in low grade but you almost never see it in VF. I agree with the other posters, it's a terrific coin to have in your collection.

Thank you all for the replies

I am thinking I might put this one in my 7070

I am curious what will get posted on Moe's thread, 25 days of Walking Liberty's
for the 1921 day ... I am thinking there will be some really nice ones.

OK, so it gets a rim damage designation. Why would that be a problem? Its not like you cant see it looking at the coin.

The scratches in the field are scratches. How can one say its from cleaning verses simple circulation marks?

21D in that condition, I would certainly send it in.

I personally like to have key dates graded.

Have it graded as is, if you want. I think it would look great in a 7070 or the 7160 it is a fine coin and deserves to be in a place of prominence to you and the hobby.
