I was just sitting here looking through ebay's Mercury Head dimes, daydreaming I'd come across a 1942/1 overdate for $5 from some non-dealer who didn't know what they had... yeah I know, it's never gonna happen, but I can dream, can't I?

So I started wondering if there were any good stories from CCF members here that have found this rare overdate somehow? I for one would love to hear your acquisition stories.

Oh, and extra points for pHotos! I'd love to see them!

Best regards to all,
Les

Somebody over at the TreasureNet forums claims to have found one in AU in the reject tray of a coin machine (with pictures).

Wow...if that really happened, what a cool find!
I look for US overdates, but never found one. However, I have found many from Australia, Sweden, and some other countries--it's my specialty.

The 1942/1-D is more likely to slip by unnoticed because it's so much more subtle. That's the one I hold out more hope for finding.
