Got this from a coin dealer for $20.

I think I got an amazing deal looking in my Red Book. What do you grade this at?

To me , it looks about VF20 damaged, $33 according to numismedia if it wasn't damaged. Damage would knock it down to maybe $23 or so. What you paid is about right in my eyes.
Rest in Peace

I would call it VF30 details with environmental damage. It is not a rare date so I think the damage would bring down the value significantly.

The Red Book shows this coin at VF20 worth $45...

What is the damage on the coin? Just the scratch on the shield?

VF-20. Nice strong LIBERTY and full reverse motto.

From the photos, the dark spots on the obverse look like environmental damage or corrosion rather than just toning. Perhaps it looks better in hand.

It is often difficult to sell coins for Red Book prices. The Grey Sheet lists this coin with a bid price of $27 and an ask price of $30 in VF.

I think it has VF-20 details. It looks like it has some environmental issues.

There appear to be patches of dark verdigris on the obverse. Particularly, either side of liberty's head, and they are raised on the surface. I would go a little higher and say VF-30 details. You paid what the coin is worth imho.

I was thinking it was between f12 or vf20. One thing nobody pointed out is the lettering is worn. It is readable but some letters are worn down pretty hard and barely discernible.

VF-20 with some surface issues possibly cleaned or environmental damage
