1968 Silver Or Nickel Quarter? - Coin Community Forum

1945V Valued Member Canada 386 Posts	Posted 09/03/2011 09:17 am Simplest way is to use a magnet. If it sticks to the magnetic: it is nickel, if it does not: it is silver. Others ways to tell the difference is visually: nickel has a darker color compared to the whitish color of silver. Also if you drop the coin on a counter, silver has a pinging sound compared to the dull thud of a nickel coin. Report this Post to the Staff
