I'm not familiar with the 'Hanging 4' variety. Could someone please explain to me what to look for here.

The hanging 4 is basically the same as any other hanging number. You are looking for a clash leading from the top of the number that curves to the left and then back towards the top of the coin connecting the number to the lower left leaf.

Here is an example from coinsandcanada.com for a hanging 3. The clash will be similar for other dates.
