Acid treated. Just as certain acids will bring back dates and mint marks by removing areas of the metal that have lesser resistance to the acid than other due to metallurgic changes in the metallic crystal structure after striking process. Notice the lines all flow outward ( flow line pressure of the strike) and thinner and less diameter since acid eats from all directions. IMO.

Both of them were damaged via chemical erosion.
