Quote: What in the world are you talking about? Sorry, that was me, removing a politically-charged remark which had nothing to do with coins. Should have labeled it as such the first time. Seller's reply: Quote: These coins have been with me for years. I also collect coins? is that allowed

That's how I want to store my coins to help with storage There are better ways!

No, but he is no "collector" either. As a seller, he is free to make up whatever stories he wishes, and as potential buyers we in turn are free to accept or reject his offer. Notice that he's been careful to avoid leading words like "unsearched" or rolls put together "a long time ago." These seeded rolls are so bad for the hobby, they probably drive people away from collecting seriously. The only "surprise" this buyer will get is overpaying for a common date 3cN.

Let me be sure I understand this. I have a wrapper with an 1870 3¢ piece and a nice IHC on the ends, therefore it must be a roll of wheat cents. In 50 years of collecting, hundreds of thousands of searched cents, and hundreds of collections purchased, I've never, not once, seen a 3¢ piece in a roll, much less on the end of a roll, which also just happens to have an IHC on the other end.

The seller is not an idiot. He's getting $46 for $5 in wheat cents plus $5 in cull type coins.
The buyer is the idiot.

The buyer is only an idiot if he leaves positive feedback and does not return the roll. The seller obviously has no concept of honesty.

Biggfredd that is because you don't roll your coins in the dark. I agree these salted rolls are bad for numismatics but greed seems to overrule logic. Here is another auction that makes you laugh. http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNSEARCHED-...em415ce30f1cAbout 2 weeks ago a pair of Carson City bank rolls were auctioned and went for over 5k. While they were from the bank that doesn't mean every coin is a CC dolar as evidenced by some feedback of one opening a sealed roll. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-SEALED...em43a93ac5ccThe feedback on one of these auctions was... 2-84CC,1 82CC. 17 BU SILVER DOLLARS ..$1600 WORTH.... NOT WORTH $3800 Member id rillbones ( Feedback Score Of 2131) Aug-10-11 10:20 RARE SEALED Morgan dollar CARSON CITY Bank Roll NV (16) (# 250866137087)
