I'm just getting into this series and I'd like to know what books are best for both a general overview etc?

If your getting average circulated coins than I would say just go with a whitman but if you want uncirculated and pristine coins than I would say get a Dansco. But it's just personal preference on whether or not you want to see the reverse or both.

Sorry, I didn't mean albums. I meant books like the Cherrypicker's guide and The Complete Guide to Mercury dimes. Are these books that you recommend for this type of thing?

For information on some of the varieties out there check out the variety pages on my website. There are many close up images of double dies and repunched mint marks (RPMs).
