All right, I finally got myself a 1917 Type I
Standing Liberty quarter to add to my Dansco 7070 album. After asking the advice of the members here, I decided I didn't really need to get one where the details of the exposed breast on the obverse were crystal clear, as long as I could clearly make out the other things that made the Type I unique (hairstyle, lack of stars on the back, etc.).
I picked this one up for $65:

The seller graded it as fine, but I'm thinking it's closer to a VF20-25, based on the fact that I can clearly make out all the rivets on the shield, the date is clearly visible, and the feathers on the eagle are fairly well-defined. The coin is pretty dark and grungy, but the patterns of grunge make me suspect it may have been cleaned once upon a time.
Anyway, if it really is a VF25, I think I did pretty good (the current value over at numismedia.com is $78). If not, well, it's not like I had to exhaust my son's college education fund for it...
What do you think?
