Kurt, I wonder if that lower section of the reverse,could be a collapsed die section? it could also be 'struck thru', grease.
The link is a very good one, and Cris is also very well known in another area of US copper cents. his Registry sets are as good as it gets, in most cases.

The reverse certain has die problems. I wasn't sure if it was that specific variety.
Many of the cracks match, but the pic isn't very good. It could be an earlier die state.

The M of America doesn't look the same, so maybe the cracks in that area of the die came after your coin was minted.
