I am going to attend a coin show this weekend and have a few BU/AU silver quarters and dimes that I have duplicates of. I am considering selling them to a dealer at the show and I've never done this. How can I get the best deal for them? Compare buy quotes from other dealers and take the best one? Do the date of the coins make a big difference? (considering the silver content and current price of silver) I just want to get the most I'm due for them. Thanks for any suggestions.

Not to disuade or discourage you, but I wouldnt be surprised if you get somewhere around melt for these coins unless you have key dates. Hopefully I am wrong, but with the way silver prices are now, you may not get much of a premium for the numismatic value.

I've had poor luck selling to dealers at coin shows. I don't even consider it anymore. Most of the shows I go to it seems the dealers have come to an agreement on what they are going to pay for silver and its usually around 70% spot. I get a better deal taking it in to the B&M stores owned by the same people at the show. Sometimes they will cut you a deal if you are trading but even then its hit and miss.

Actually not an easy question since you didn't mention dates or mint marks. If those are coins a dealer needs or wants, could become a decent profit. If just normal coins that are common, most dealers are at a coin show to make money, not spend. Of course the place and type of coin show is rather important. Really small, neighborhood type shows are not a good place to sell coins of any kind, usually. Really large shows give you the oppertunaty to find a dealer that wants those coins.

I have never sold any of my excess silver, but I have traded it. Because the dealer is moving inventory, they tend to provide a better deal.
