Thanks in advance... Got a friend who needs to sell off some gold. Sounds like it's mostly non-US coins. If they turn out to be bullion value only, I'm looking for an alternative for her to selling to the local jewelry store where she was headed. Anybody have experience in selling to APMEX? Any reviews on overall experience and % of melt paid would be appreciated. Regards!

I have not dealt with APMEX selling, but you can always sell to a bullion hungry coin community forum. Starting with me. :) From what I've seen, members have not had major difficulties selling to APMEX. Best of luck.

I've never sold to them, only bought from them and that was positive. They seem to have pretty solid buy prices if you are selling $10K plus of material to them. I'm not sure how much it drops off for under $10K. Also, keep in mind you may have to cover the shipping on the items including insurance. Like someone else said, I would try here first. :)

Thanks so far. Still interested in any actual APMEX sell experiences. If she moves forward, I will certainly keep in mind offering for sale here. I would essentially have to buy them from her and sell here, which places some workload and financial exposure on me. That is something I would definitely offer to do, but only if it produces a worthwhile amount above local sale for her. Who knows? With her, should could change her mind tonight or show up with a list of $25K in gold coins tomorrow, or anything in between.

I've sold silver to them on occasion, always a positive result. I wouldn't hesitate to sell them gold based on my silver trades. nlp

I just made a large sell to them, over $500 90% silver face value. They offered the best price per dollar at the time. I did a check with over 5 local dealers and two on line dealers.
I am not going to say they offer the best price 100% of the time so you should check around.
The process is easy just call them and get your quote. If your happy then make the sale.
I sent mine to them the next day and they received the coins in three days. That was a Thursday. They confirmed the arrival and said it would be a few days until they went through it.
On Monday I received an email that they had sent me a check. I received the check on Wednesday.
This is not the first time I sold to them but I thought I would give you my most recent sale to them.
When I have more time I do try to sell at full melt value but sometimes when you have a high amount it isn't that fast so selling to them is an easy option when they offer the best price.

I sold around $400 face to them a few months ago. They locked in a price & I shipped registered mail. The silver price dropped a few dollars before they received it but they paid as promised. Registered mail was slow but secure.

Did they pay a flat percentage of the current spot at the time?

I have not used APMEX more then to keep up with spot prices. If you need something quick, at a little less then you could prob get elsewhere, but something thats safe, and guranteed, I would definately use thrm.

APMEX has buy prices listed for almost any item they sell & I think % of spot varied according to the individual item. I don't remember exactly what % of spot they were paying for junk silver. I sold to them when silver spot was extremely volatile....their price was competitive & I was able to lock in.

Quote: I was able to lock in That's a huge plus. I'm lucky on the sell side because they are local to me and I can hand deliver to them. Unlucky on the buy side because of state and local sales taxes apply.

if I don't have APMEX's $1000 minimum to sell to them, where would you recommend? not an auction, please.

APMEX is good for selling. The price is locked in, what you're quoted is what you get...provided everything checks out on their audit of the metal once they receive it. The thing to factor in is the cost to ship it. Do you want to do standard Priority? Express? I'd suggested Registered, even though it's more expensive. USPS, anyway.

I wish APMEX would list their buy prices like Provident does. I'd rather not have to give out my email address or phone # or have to call.

Keep in mind that USPS is taking forever to deliver due to high demand and employees out with COVID-19. If the price is locked in, it shouldn't be a problem, but I've watched single coins won in auction sit at the regional distribution center for a week. So it may take some time to get to APMEX.
