I have seen a few "Redfield Morgans" in the red holders for sale, graded by Paramount I presume. From what I can tell they look to be graded fairly. How do they compare to PCGS,NGC as far as sale value?

I have heard conflicting stories on this subject, I have heard they were graded correctly and I have also heard that they were graded loosely. I have never seen one that was graded by NGC or PCGS after them being graded by Paramount so I really do not have any idea but the ones I saw looked to be graded very close to my grading standards (for what thats worth)

In balance the Paramount grading was pretty decent. Over the years, vast numbers of Paramount holders have been cracked in favor of major TPG slabs. You can expect, in the future, an increased value to Paramount-holdered Morgans, just like GSA Morgans and for the same reason. Grade notwithstanding, these days the Paramount holder represents added value on its' own.

I believe that the only grades issued on the original Paramount holders were either MS60 or MS65. Since it was the early 70s when they were slabbed, the grading was probably conservative. More than likely, you could find MS63+ coins in the MS60 holders.

The Paramount grading was accurate for the time they were slabbed but for the most part they would not meet the current standards for those grades today. That said, the holders themselves add value to the coins (like the gsa's), and are worth holding on to.

Thanks HD,
The more I look at these Redfields the more you have to look pretty close. Some are very loosely graded. I have found some graded MS65 that I'm sure PCGS would grade MS62 or 63,and others that are pretty close to grade.
